Britain’s Hidden Champions: The Social Effects of Family Mid-Sized Businesses

We’re pleased to announce the Family Business Research Foundation (FBRF) has commissioned Lancaster University to assess the social effects of family mid-sized businesses, following a competitive request for proposal process.  This research examines the unique social role of UK mid-sized family businesses (MSBs), with a focus on their integration into local communities, and community resilience.

In particular, the research will look into:-

  • the distinctive social impact of mid-sized UK family firms on their communities

  • the social roles, responsibilities, and practices of mid-sized family firms and

  • transitions in ownership, from family to non-family or vice versa, and how this affects the economic and social contributions of mid-sized firms

The outputs of this research will be reported in May 2027.
